an introduction to bioenergetics
Bioenergetics is the study of how living systems generate, use, and regulate energy. In classical biology, it focuses on how cells convert nutrients into usable energy in the form of ATP. This process occurs through cellular respiration, primarily within the mitochondria.
Mitochondria act as cellular powerhouses, generating the majority of ATP while also playing roles in detoxification, redox balance, and cell death.
When mitochondrial function is impaired due to inflammation, oxidative stress, toxins, or nutrient deficiencies, energy production declines. This results in fatigue, poor healing, and chronic illness.
My practice employs a unique, bioenergetic approach to mitochondrial optimization. It targets sub-clinical chronic health conditions and the way these intersect with trauma and neurodivergence.
